Our partnership with Loachapoka Elementary School includes Tutoring, Gently Read Books, and Teacher Support.
- Tutors are assigned to one classroom and visit once a week to work with students for about an hour. We focus on reading but sometimes venture into other subjects like math. Our tutors work closely with the teachers to support students who need the most help.
- Our Gently Read Books Team delivers books for every classroom about 3 times a year. A majority of these books are donated by the congregation. Our team sorts the books and delivers them to the school so students can choose two books to take home to help build their home library.
- We support teachers by providing a meal in early August while teachers are back preparing to begin the fall semester and another meal during Teacher Appreciation Week at the end of the spring semester. We also provide classroom supplies with our annual Angel Tree during the Advent season. Encouraging cards and gifts are given to teachers for Christmas and at the end of the year.

Do you enjoy working with children and helping them learn and grow in their self-confidence? Our Loachapoka Elementary partnership sends tutors to the school to work with children once a week. Tutors are assigned to specific classrooms and work closely with the teacher. They usually serve about one hour each week and focus on literacy, but sometimes help is needed in other subject areas too. Some tutors work with individual students and some work with small groups. This is a wonderful way to serve with our community! A background check with Lee County Schools is required to volunteer as a tutor.
