Help for Haiti

AUMC is in prayer for the nation of Haiti as it begins to recover from a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake.  We believe Scripture calls us to come alongside our neighbors in times of need (Luke 10:25-37), and that by doing so we are serving Christ (Matthew 25:40).  Therefore we encourage our faith community to get involved in the relief efforts in Haiti by supporting The United Methodist Committee on Relief and the United Methodist Volunteers in Mission. 

“UMCOR has always had a strong presence in Haiti,” said Tom Hazelwood of UMCOR’s disaster-response staff. United Methodists have had a long-standing relationship with Haiti through the Methodist Church of Haiti. The strong ties between the Methodist Church of Haiti and UMCOR helped facilitate the opening of an UMCOR Haiti field office in 2005.

  • Pray for the people of Haiti and the first responders working now
  • Keep up-to-date on the response and recovery efforts at the UMC website,  and the UMVIM website
  • Donate financially to the UMCOR efforts by clicking on link listed above.  100% of all donations go directly to the recovery work in Haiti
  • Send relief kits (see instructions below)


Relief Kit Contents:

  • $1 bill (for UMCOR to purchase toothpaste; please do not include toothpaste in the kit)
  • 1 hand towel (15” x 25” up to 17” x 27”)
  • 1 wash cloth
  • 1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
  • 1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
  • 1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz and up)
  • 1 toothbrush (single brush only in original wrapper; no child-sized brushes)
  • 6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
  • All items should be placed inside a sealed one-gallon plastic bag. No extra money, notes, religious or political literature, or other items should be placed in the kits.

Drop off completed kits at the Mathison building receptionist office or the Mission Office located in Hamill Court.  You may also mail completed kits to the address below.
